Today is Wednesday, My favorite day.

Hump-day
I like Wednesday. It brings me the right amount of anticipation for the days to come. I say this because I like the feeling of looking forward to something like Friday and Saturday. Other people like Friday Saturday, because it the time for partying and such… but what happens when you wake up to Sunday??? Huh?? It’s all over baby. Nothing really to anticipate but Sunday which you may spend vegetating, and Monday which most people dread. But with Wednesday, you’re in the middle of the week, the Monday doldrums had just passed, and you’re almost to the fun part (Weekend).

Poker, NL Hold’em
I kinda miss going to Boulevard (code name Boules between my friend Jumaaaa and Myself). I’m in the plus there, but it’s been a while since I’ve played. I feel the itch to bust somebody with my 8s 9s stackers. Funny because I watched Maverick the other day, you know that movie with Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster; wild west and poker. Pretty cool. I know, I know… very random, but it had poker in it, and I wanna play.

What’s your favorite day? And what’s your favorite poker hand? I guess you just found out a tell from me, or did you?

Forgetful. I learned my lesson.

I’m probably one of the most forgetful person you’ll ever meet. I blame it on the 2 concussions I have suffered from snowboarding and martial arts. Or maybe I shouldn’t since my mind is always at a blur, and cannot stand still. ADHD? I don’t really know. Maybe a little bit of column ‘A’ and ‘B’. To give you an example, I used to have a classmate from high school to whom I always had my locker side by side with. I spoke to her every single day at school. A year after I graduated, I was so happy to see her at the mall, yet, I had forgotten her name. Who would do that? Only me. It’s truly shameful of me.

It doesn’t really help as a musician to be forgetful. As a singer, I constantly have to memorize music lyrics. But to tell you the truth, I have a really hard time doing so. I may be able to memorize it today, but ask me tomorrow, and I can probably sing only the chorus, and maybe the first verse.

Whenever I write music, one minute, I’d have the greatest melody thought out in my head. Then I watch some tv, eat dinner… and realize I had forgotten what I just came up with. I got fed up with this routine, because forgetting music sucks and always left a bad aftertaste in my mouth. So I got into recording voice memo’s on my iphone. I carry my phone a lot, and it’s proven useful. When I was in my teen years (when I really got into writing music), I used to carry a panasonic recorder with me all the time. The iphone has now superseded the panasonic’s role and I’m glad it’s there. No more bad aftertaste.

So with that said I admit that I am forgetful. It’s not a proud trait I have, and I’ve been trying my best to improve it. I really believe I will have Alzheimer’s when I’m older, but I’ll fight it until I throw it down.

In Other News:
– I bought a new camera, and it’s awesome. The picture you see is from my new DSLR. I love it.
– I also started writing music again.
– Big 2 Films is going to have an online TV show. Stay tuned for that!

Until Next time,

Stop the banging.

Hello my friends,

For the past few weeks I’ve been waking up to a loud banging sound. It started a couple weeks ago when we had that full week of sun. I decided to open my window for the night for it was too hot in the morning. Then…. BANG! BANG! BANG! Rude awakening. It’s the worst alarm clock ever.

No, it wasn’t the sound of Gun Shots, nor do I live beside a fireworks warehouse, and I take it back, waking up to those sounds will be the worst alarm clock ever. They’re building a new Hi-Rise beside mine, and they’re driving the piles in. It’s annoyingly loud.

I made a video about it. Watch how I become crazy.

It’s affecting my recording. I always try to record in the morning because it’s my only free time. I’m at the Taekwondo Gym in the afternoon evening, and I’m filming during the weekend.

I guess I have to find a time or wait for it to stop.

Check out the video.

A street with my name on it? Crazy!

My name, Philbert, isn’t that common. Apparently, while I was being born, my father and his siblings were frantically searching the “Worldbook Encyclopedia of Names” for suitable handles that would brand me for life. They chose a bunch of names that they liked, put them in a box, and decided to choose my name lottery style. My dad’s youngest sibling, Uncle Ferdimar, was the one who ended up drawing the ballot. He accidentally drew two ballots, one said Philbert, and the other said Simon.

Philbert, according to Worldbook Encyclopedia, meant very bright, Simon meant gift of God. Cool, I’ll take it! But I don’t believe in those meanings. It’s the person that makes the name, not the name that makes the person.

I’ve never met another Philbert in this world, and I don’t see my name anywhere else. I’m sure there are other Philbert’s out there, but the main point is that my name is uncommon.

Until my sister and I drove out to visit our family in a city called Mission, here in British Columbia. It was by pure accident that I discovered this street. It was because we got lost that I found out that Philbert St. existed.

I didn’t know what to do! There, sitting on top of this huge Stop sign, was Philbert St. I had to take a picture

Philbert Street

It was pretty cool experience for me. I would have never thought that a street would share the same name. Apparently there’s a Simon Street in Mission too. Yet, I think the Philbert Street experience more of a find since, like I said, my name is uncommon.

My tastebuds have been spoiled lately.

Recently, I have been widening my food repertoire courtesy of my Auntie Shiela. She’s been preparing Indian and South East Asian dishes, and I have been a willing tester and delighted to being one. She’s a great cook. Check out the pictures!

This one is Laksa Noodles with fishballs.
This one is Curry Chicken on brown rice. Awesome.

My parents are awesome cooks too! They’re opening a soup and steamed bun restaurant. Please have a lookout for it. Actually you can order steamed bun now! They deliver! Flavours they offer: chicken, pork, afritada, caldereta and perogi for meal buns… blueberry and strawberry for dessert buns.

These are strawberry filled. Notice the little strawberry designs on them?

So yes… it’s a great life. I’ll keep on taking pictures, because believe me… there are so many different kinds of food I have been trying, and they’re definite treats!

Until Next time,

Yes my iphone is RED.

“What the hell happened to your Iphone? How did you do that, is that a case? Whaat? Wahaaaaat?” asked one of my friends.

Yes my Iphone housing is red, not black and not white. Yes, I’m also brushing my teeth. You know how I roll.

I did it myself. I don’t recommend it though because I had to unscrew a bijillion tiny screws just to get my old black housing one out. For a while my home button didn’t work too, and I had to do some Grade 10 electronics and solder some wires just to get the damn button to work again. But, all in all, my Iphone has become unique. At least it can’t get lost in a sea of Iphones. Everyone now a days has one, and it just gives it that extra character that makes it my own.

I use my Iphone a lot! It’s my guitar tuner, emergency camera, internet, games, music, voice recorder, sketch pad, man I can go on forever. Currently my ringtone is “Imma be”.

You can get iphone housings online. There’s blue, pink, gold.. you name it. I had to change my housing because I managed to break the old one, and I noticed there are different colours that you can get. I had to protect it somehow, and a bulky iphone case was not my choice. Killed two birds with one stone with this choice. 🙂 Avoided the bulky case, and pimped up my iphone.

My New Headquarters

My room by day

My room by night

I’ve finally moved out.

It’s an awesome feeling. Yet I cannot describe why it is an awesome feeling. I guess it’s because I am finally becoming independent, having the freedom to do whatever I want makes me feel like a million bucks.

I’m also discovering some big changes that I didn’t foresee.

Back at home, there’s always home cooked meals, and food out of the fridge. Last night, I opened the fridge and realized that it needed to be stocked up. All I wanted was an apple strudel/apple pie that was always in the fridge at home. I got so hungry that I had to fight my craving of going out at 2:00 am to get A&W Sirloin burger and fries (thanks to my Buddy Andrew.)

I also noticed that moving is costly. Furnishings, toiletries, food, water, rent, gas, hydro, internet, cable, telephone, can create a big hole in your pockets.

It can be pretty quiet at times. I can hear the cars buzzing down the street, people laughing, the wind, the rain, the washing machine… different from when I was at home. At home you hear my parents cooking, my sister watchin’ tv… it can be a loud household. Somehow, I kinda missing it.

This place is my headquarters now, for Big 2 Films and Philbert Simon VPM. Downstairs is equipped with a meeting room, and a theatre room that I can utilize for my clients. There’s also a workout room, and a nice courtyard.

What I love the most about the new place is my room. I can see snow on the mountains, a lake, the theatre, the public pool, the library… man it’s pretty cool.

I’ll take more pics soon.
